You have to do regular exercises, maintain disciplined diet habits and medicines (insulin injections/tablets) in order to keep and maintain your blood glucose levels in control all the day.
You must know that Insulin injection is not needed immediately after you get diagnosed with diabetes (unless and only if your doctor feels that this is an emergency).
Importantly if you are over weight or an obese then you need to lower your weight through the diet control and give up your sedentary lifestyle so that the medications and insulin will work better. Make sure that your treatment must be started with an expert, who must review every 2-5 months to help you in keeping your blood glucose levels in control. And also you must register in diabetic clinic for for getting your blood pressure and ECG checked regularly.
Treatment is mainly aimed at maintaining the blood glucose with in the normal range and HbA1c lower than the 7%, by managing and balancing your food intake with insulin or oral medication and physical activity year after year, to avoid dangerous complications of diabetes.
Even emotional stress (displeasure, a death in family, at home or at work ) can increase and disturb the control of diabetes. For this you need to consult your physician for proper adjustment in your dosage of medication and try to do some exercises which can control your stress like yoga and medication.
Lastly by keeping a good control of diabetes at all times, you can prevent and control the diabetes complications affecting the eyes, nerves, heart, kidneys & blood vessels.
